All-Ivy/Seven Sisters Tour of LanternAsia - April 19

at Norfolk Botanical Gardens

The Harvard Club of Virginia invites all Ivy League and Seven Sisters alums to join us on Tuesday, April 19th from 6:30 till 9:00pm at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens for LanternAsia:    http://norfolkbotanicalgarden.org/lanternasia-2016/

This is the first-ever Chinese lantern exhibition in Virginia and all of the eastern seaboard.  A mile long loop of the Gardens will be lit up with 36 magical works of art, (some as tall at four stories), crafted from silk, steel and other eco-friendly materials, highlighting Asian themes from nature, wildlife, architecture and folklore.  The exhibit is the largest of its kind and will only be happening at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.

We will gather at the Visitor Center at 6:30pm.  Look for someone holding a Harvard Club sign.  If you would like to eat, please bring a picnic dinner or snack and we can all sit together and enjoy ourselves at the tables there.  Then around 7:30pm, as the sun begins to set, we will start walking the illuminated loop together.

To find out more and to purchase tickets, please go to http://norfolkbotanicalgarden.org/lanternasia-2016/  .

Also, please RSVP to Sibellyg@yahoo.com, so that we know how many people to expect and so that we can email you if we need to cancel, due to inclement weather.

Please be sure to read the LanternAsia Guidelines on their website above.  The Gardens has advised us to watch the weather report for that day.  There are plenty of tickets, so there is no need to purchase your tickets until a few days before the 19th.  That will allow you to check the weather forecast before purchasing tickets.  The Harvard Club will NOT reschedule the event, due to inclement weather.  We will hold the event on the 19th at 6:30pm, rain or shine, unless there is a thunder and lightning storm in the area.

Basically, the Gardens policy is as follows:  If you purchase tickets and later see that the weather is expected to be inclement, you can call 48 hours before your scheduled day (in our case, call by April 17 at 6:30pm), and you can reschedule for another day, based on availability.  If you do not call 48 hours in advance and the weather gets threatening on the 19th, you are expected to use your tickets on the day for which you purchased them, rain or shine.  The gardens will be open from 9:00am to 9:00pm on the 19th.  We will email by 3:00pm on the 19th all those who have RSVP’ed to let them know if we plan to cancel the event.  We realize we have not had many events in which we needed to take the weather into account, but this exhibit seemed so special, we thought we would give it a try.

If you have any questions, please email Sibel Galindez at Sibellyg@yahoo.com or call her at (858) 414-7578.  And please remember, when you purchase your tickets please email Sibel, so she can have an idea of how many people will be coming.  Thank you and we hope to see you on the 19th!
