Dear Harvard Alumnus/Alumna,

Welcome to the website of the Harvard Club of Virginia (HCVA).  Did you know that there are over 2,000 alumni of the various Harvard schools living here in Virginia?  Wouldn’t it be great to connect with these people, reconnect with Harvard, continue your own education, and support the educational development of young Virginians?  We’re here to help you do that.  As a Harvard alumnus/alumna, you are already a member, since we do not charge dues.

HCVA members play a critical role in the University’s educational outreach to the Commonwealth.  Members create awareness of University programs and the potential for admission and financial aid to its College and graduate schools for a diverse pool of applications. We conduct outreach to students, parents, and guidance counselors to increase their understanding of the opportunities and availability of education at Harvard, and facilitate their interactions in seeking admission.  We fund and award the Harvard Book Prizes to high school juniors across the Commonwealth who have excelled in their schools, rewarding educational excellence.

Members conduct face to face interviews of students applying to Harvard College to assist the admission’s process.  No student is admitted without an interview, and often these are the applicants’ only face to face interaction with a representative of Harvard.  Anything we can do to encourage and assist students’ applications to Harvard is greatly appreciated in Cambridge.  If you would like to help us in this or any other way, please email me.

The club also conducts educational and arts programs, featuring Harvard professors, instructors, coaches and alumni, bringing Harvard here to provide continuing learning experiences.   Each speaker brings in-depth knowledge of their field. Some work on the cutting edge of important research, others are renowned thought leaders politics and cultural affairs, or performers in the arts.

Our charter is also to fund scholarships and provide links to local employers to help students find jobs to assist with financing education and internships to advance the success of their research and career interests.

Lastly, HCVA promotes fellowship among alumni sharing the goals above, arranging events at minimal cost at exciting venues around the state.  We regularly hold alumni events in the Richmond, Williamsburg, and Norfolk areas.  Many of these events also include alumni from a variety of other Ivy League schools.  At most of our mixers, there is no charge for admission, plus drinks and food are discounted.  Keep an eye on this website for upcoming events in your area.

We’re always looking for people who would like to get more involved in the club.  Whether it’s becoming an officer, assisting with event planning, interviewing, community outreach or anything else, we welcome your help.  Whatever you would like to do, please join us and find out how much fun it is to connect with your peers.  Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Best regards,
